MNR releases new hunting and fishing maps

The most up-to-date hunting and fishing maps, covering Kenora, Fort Frances, Dryden, Ignace, Sioux Lookout and Atikokan, are now available from retailers across northwestern Ontario.
“The Explorer Map Series, produced by Crime Stoppers, is filled with information most requested by the hunting and fishing public. The forest industry and the Ministry of Natural Resources provided the data to create the maps,” said Ross Johnston, Ministry of Natural Resources Thunder Bay District Community Liaison Conservation Officer and Crime Stoppers representative. “Maps for the Red Lake area are expected in early 2006. As well, the Thunder Bay series, first released in 2001, will be updated and ready for distribution in the fall of 2006 along with a new Nipigon series.”
The maps provide the following information:
*Land use designations: Crown, Patent, First Nations, Federal
*Provincial Parks: Nature Reserve, Waterway, Natural Environment, Recreational, Wilderness
*Conservation Areas/Reserves
*Enhanced Management Areas
* Forest Reserves
*Green Zones: Year-round, Seasonal
*Access: Highways, Primary Roads, Secondary Roads, Tertiary Roads, Trails
*Restricted Roads: Sign Locations, Affected Roads
*Railways, Pipelines, Power lines, Snowmobile Trails (maintained trails)
*Points of Interest: Main Base Lodges, Remote Main Lodges, Outpost Camps, Remote Outpost Camps, Picnic Sites, Commercial Campgrounds, Designated Camping Sites
*Boundaries: MNR District Boundaries, Wildlife Management Unit Boundaries, Ontario Boundaries, Fish Sanctuaries
*Fish Species Index: Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout, Splake, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Yellow Perch, Sturgeon, Brook Trout, Speckled Trout, Lake Whitefish, Muskellunge, Walleye
The maps, priced at $11.95, may be purchased online at www.kestrelforestry.com as well as at outlets throughout northwestern Ontario. The revenue generated will support the work of Crime Stoppers.
