Clarence Everett Shrumm, 73
Clarence Everett Shrumm, 73 years of Stratton, Ontario passed away suddenly at the Rainy River Health Centre in Rainy River, Ontario early Saturday evening, January 7th, 2006.
Clarence was born in Stratton ON, March 10th, 1932 to Everett and Florence Shrumm. Clarence attended school at Morley Consolidated. He helped out at the family store and farm. He purchased his first truck at sixteen and worked as a trucker for a number of years hauling wood and gravel. In 1952 he married Anne Wardman and together they raised two sons Gordon and Dan. In 1955 Clarence purchased a small farm just north of Stratton. In 1958 he purchased his first school bus and was owner/operator until 1995. He also ran the Municipal grader and plow for several years on a part-time basis.
Clarence was an avid curler and was still curling twice a week at the time of his passing. He helped put in the curling ice for the past few years and always checked every day to make sure the plant was running smoothly. He was a great volunteer worker for the Stratton Recreational Society to which he belonged for over 50 years. He was also the President of the Rec Society for many, many years.
Rather then traveling, Clarence and Anne spent most weekends from May to October at their wonderful cabin on Lake of the Woods where they enjoyed the company of many friends of neighboring cabins as well as friends and family from the area. It was their home away from home.
Clarence is survived by his loving wife Anne of 53 years of Stratton, Ont., his son Gordon and daughter-in-law Lee of Nestor Falls, Ont., granddaughter Pam and fiance Bob Cassibo of Hibbing, MN, daughter-in-law Sandy Shrumm of Stratton, Ont., granddaughters Danielle and Jennifer of Winnipeg, Man., and grandson Darren of Edmonton, Alta. he is also survived by one brother Murray Shrumm of Stoney Plain, Alta. as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Everett in 1971, mother Florence in 1983 and youngest son Dan in 1996.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 12th, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Stratton Millennium Hall. Reverend Barbara Miller will officiate with interment in the Barwick Cemetery.
Visitation was held on Thursday afternoon from 1 p.m. until service time at the Stratton Millennium Hall.
The active pallbearers were George Heyens, George Oltsher, Don Bolen, Joe Irvine, Glen Jackson and Terry Williams.
The honourary pallbearers were John Smits, Gordie Williams, Murray Aikenhead, Murray Meyers, Ron McQuaker and Brian Bonot.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, 920 Frenette Ave., Fort Frances, Ontario, P9A 3N4, or to the charity of your choice.
