Safety vs. Money

Dear Editor;
I feel the need to voice my concerns to the rest of the readers regarding the proposed closing of the Little Street and Government Road railway crossings within the Town of Rainy River.
The town council is looking only at the bottom line of dollars that they will save by closing the crossing. This all sounds good to Town Council. I am unaware of any council member that resides north of the tracks. So why should they care. Right?
I am in favour of the crossings staying open. Has the town considered the following? Disruption in bus routes, there are still kids that walk to school in the area. Increased response time for emergency vehicles, fire, ambulance, police. How do you think they would feel if a loved one’s life depended on response time and the emergency vehicle had to take a longer route to arrive at the scene. I know I’d be upset, speaking as a emergency service provider a minute or even seconds can make a difference.
And just the major inconvience of having to detour to another crossing. It’s bad enough having to wait for all three crossings to clear.
Maybe there should be an underpass built and they can foot the bill for that one.
I feel that the town should take a long hard look at this issue before making a call. Public Safety versus Money.
I know where I stand on the issue.

Thank you.
