Letter to the Editor,
“Fans Spells Success”
The Provincial Scott Tournament of Hearts hosted by the Fort Frances, Curling Club proved this by packing the house through Round Robin, Page, Semi and Finals games.
Dedicated Volunteers pulled in much needed revenue by selling 50/50 tickets on every draw as well as Program tickets etc plus the many Sponsors that contributed to help the Club bury their debts and get on even terms to sustain a prosperous Curling Club into the Future.
As a volunteer in previous Provincial Seniors Mens, Juniors, and Mixed held at the Fort Frances Curling Club did not experience these playdowns as exuberant as this years Provincial Tournament of Hearts other wise they could have added much more to the coffer and completely out of debt.
Witnessing this success while as a spectator would suggest the Curling Club bid on future Provincial events and possibly a National event which is in reach as Kenora hosted the National Seniors with a Curling Club no larger than the Fort Frances Club.
If you have watched the Canada Cup hosted at Kamloops British Columbia you would see very few fans attending while having the best Curling Teams throughout Canada participating for that particular event.
Running the Straus Canada Cup four years in a row at the same site with the best talent in our country with meager crowds is beyond my recollection. They could have it hosted in areas where there is an abundance of Curling fans and for sure without a benefit of a doubt in the Rainy River District.
