Submitted by Bob McGreevy
RRHS Principal
February 21st was filled with fun at the Rainy River High School, when approximately 45 grade 9, 10 and 11 students and their parents assembled for Family Literacy Night.
The evening began with a wonderful meal. The group then assembled in the library where six mini workshops were presented. Topics that were addressed included: writing a news reports, how to motivate your child to read, paragraph writing, reading strategies that work, writing opinion paragraphs, and a silly syntax game. After the individual workshops were presented, families had the opportunity to ask questions regarding the upcoming Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test that is being written on March 29th.
This was the first of two Family Literacy events that will take place in Rainy River. The next event is a Family Literacy Fair for families withchildren between the ages of 4 and 14. This fun filled day will be on
Saturday, April 29th. Watch for more information in the near future.
