Women’s Institute to hold Rose Tea next Wednesday

Rebecca Wood
LoW. W.I.

The Lake of the Woods Women’s Institute has kept busy over the winter with monthly meetings hosted by Mary Bottenfield, Karen Sepers, Ruth Brett and new members Caroline and Linda Kreger.
Some of our winter projects:
NOVEMBER:
We made and sold lefse, flatbread and crafts, and held a silent auction at the November craft sale.
DECEMBER:
Our Christmas Community Pot Luck supper was well attended. Everyone enjoyed great food, fellowship and entertainment by Hwy 621 Olde Tyme Band. Thank you to everyone who came out, and to those who generously made donations.
The Museum Christmas Luncheon was held at the Women’s Institute Museum in Emo. Joyous Bragg won the draw for the museum quilt.
We enjoyed a fun evening at Caroline Kreger’s home for our pot luck Christmas party. It was wonderful to see Ruth Huntley out for the evening, as well as guests Sherri Kreger and Carol McClain.
After dinner we exchanged gifts, and then got to work stuffing 75 bags for the school concert.
A fun time was had by all.
JANUARY:
Concern was expressed about the extra cost of purchasing drinking water for coffee, mixed juices, etc. whenever we hold an event at the hall.
Plans for a series of sewing lessons for interested students in grades 6 and up are in the works. The lunchroom at the school has been booked for Saturdays for this project.
Karen presented a program on Alzeimers Disease. Flurizan is a new drug that is being studied which seems to stop the disease in its tracks.
FEBRUARY:
The February meeting was held at the home of Ruth Brett. We were pleased to have Margaret Kreger as our guest.
A motion was made to pay our annual dues as well as a donation to the museum board. The Museum Board will meet for a Strategic Planning Workshop on March 25th.
When the weather warms up, Ruth will plant a rose bush in memory of Alice Pentney at the hospital on behalf of our members.
The Sewing for Beginners Program has begun with 7 girls in attendance in Saturdays at the school.
Plans are being finalized for our annual Spring ROSE Tea at the Bergland Hall. The date of the tea has been moved to Wednesday, March 15th at 1 p.m. Instead of having a guest speaker this year, after a ‘Dainty’ lunch, our group will put on some short, fun and educational skits, followed by a surprise auction. All W.I branches as well as members of the community are invited to attend.
