Crossings should stay open
Dear Ken,
Greetings from Florida!
I have followed the controversy over the closing of the crossing along the CN tracks in Rainy River.
Has the matter been taken up with the Ministry of Transportation?
I agree with Mark Marchuk’s letter in the Feb 7th issue. The crossings should remain open. The welfare of the residents is important.
All four crossings should remain open, the town arrange with CN to pay them $62,775 and have CN install arms on all four crossings in Rainy River also pay CN $3000 a year to maintain the four gates.
The trains can run though the track at any speed with no danger to anyone, cars or pedestrians.
It is CN’s responsibility to safeguard the public. That is why trains whistle & slowdown at present.
I don’t know of any crossing along Highway 121 from Thunder Bay to Rainy River that do not have level crossing gates through a town.
Your truly
