Just out of the medals

While they did not win NWOSSAs the Rainy River High School boys curling team reached their goal for the season.
“We told coach Bonot that we wanted to make NWOSSAs at the beginning of the season,” said Mitch Seguin-third, “We did that now next year the All-Ontario’s.”
The team, comprised of Matt McQuaker-skip, Mitch at third, Kyle Miller-second and Jared McQuaker-lead, faced Dryden in their first game last Monday in Fort Frances. It was all RRHS until the sixth end. The team was up 6-0 before Dryden scored two in that end. However, RRHS cemented their win with another point in the seventh and Dryden resigned.
In their second game they played Lake Superior. It was a close game until RRHS had one bad end that saw Superior get 5 in the 6th. RRHS lost that one 9-6.
RRHS then blew Marathon out of the water 14-3.
In their next game they faced Sir Winston Churchill from Thunder Bay. RRHS was winning 2-1 after two ends. However Churchill scored three 3-enders in the third, fifth and seventh ends to win 10-4.
In their last game they placed St. Ignatius but lost. That left them with a 2 and 3 record and put them in a three way tie for 3rd overall. They had a shootout and lost by inches finishing fourth overall at NWOSSAs.
Churchill went on to win and will travel to Ottawa for the All-Ontarios.
The Boys praised the great coaching of Bryan Bonot and Vice-principal Casey Slack for helping out as well.
Of the four team members three will be returning to curl for Rainy River High School next year and are determined to go all the way.
