Rallying the many
Ken Johnston
Saturday afternoon the Rainy River Legion had dignitaries from all over Northwestern Ontario visiting. It was District 7 Rally time and most regional legions were represented.
A District Rally is held once a year and a District Convention every second year. They move around the region and Saturday it was Rainy River’s turn to host.
District Commander, Marlene Gagne from Atikokan Branch, said, “We discuss what is going on at each branch and do any business needed to plan for the next convention.”
The top item on the agenda Saturday was the electing of a new sec/treas. as the previous one had recently passed away.
The 40 delegates present came from Kenora, Keewatin, Fort Frances, Oxdrift, Rainy River, Dryden, Emo, Red Lake, Hudson, Atikokan and Ear Falls. There were also 20 proxies sent to the meeting for a total of 60 votes.
A luncheon kicked the day off and then at 1 p.m. open ceremonies included a colour party as well as the singing of O’ Canada and a moment of silence for veterans lost in war and those who have passed away since the last gathering of the District leaders.
After general business was completed a roast beef dinner was held for the delegates and several guests.
