New Korean War Unit created
Ken Johnston
Over the weekend Korean War Veteran Harry Arnould attended a very emotional ceremony honouring one of the war’s most decorated soldiers.
Arnould attended a special ceremony honouring Sgt. Tommy Prince, Canada’s most decorated Korean War Veteran of Aboriginal descent.
At the ceremony it was announced that for only the second time a Korean Veteran’s Association unit (branch) will be named in honour of a veteran. That veteran is Tommy Prince. The new unit is called Sgt. Tommy Prince MM Memorial Unit 76 Winnipeg.
Prince gained national notoriety when his medals were sold recently. They have since been repurchased at a cost of about $700,000 and will be displayed at the Canadian War Museum for all Canadians to admire.
Arnould brought back a photo of the medals to be put on display at the Rainy River Legion Br. 54.
Anyone who served in Korea and is interested in joining the new Sgt. Prince Unit can download the application form at www.normsmedalmounting.com.
