Stats Canada

In the next few days, all agricultural operations in Canada and some 12 million households will receive a 2006 Census questionnaire as part of the nationwide 2006 Census of Population and Agriculture. By May 16, all households should have received their census form.
Tuesday, May 16, 2006 is Census Day in Canada. Statistics Canada conducts a complete Census of Canada’s population, along with a Census of Agriculture, every five years. The goal is to count every man, woman and child in Canada.
About 70% of questionnaires will arrive by mail; another 30% will be delivered by census enumerators. One in five households (a random sample of the population) will receive the long questionnaire (2B); all other households will receive a short questionnaire (2A).
Beginning May 2, 2006, households across the country will, for the first time, have the opportunity to complete their census form online at: www.census2006.ca. It’s an easy, secure, and convenient option that can be used anywhere, anytime.
Data collected from the Census provides a detailed statistical picture, of the demographic, social, and economic conditions of the population of the country at a single point in time. Census data are used to plan important services like public transportation, health care, education and fire and police protection, all a part of our daily lives.
