Stratton girl gives “locks for love”

April was Cancer Month. Everybody you talk to has experienced cancer in some form or another. Either they have been diagnosed with cancer, or a family member or friend has been stricken with the disease. It affects both young and old. Calli Vandenbrand, a 7 year old, Grade 1 Student from Stratton is no exception. Her aunt, Cindy Mowe we diagnosed with breast cancer and succumbed to the disease two years ago in March. Calli often visited Auntie Cindy with her mom. She was aware that Auntie Cindy was very sick, and that she lost her hair from treatments that she received to fight the cancer.
Last fall, Calli was watching a TV show with her mom about a little girl who had donated her hair for wigs for children suffering from cancer. Calli had never had her hair cut and had beautiful long blond hair. From that day, she continued to let her hair grow, in the hopes of sending it away to be mad in to a wig.
On April 26, 2006, Calli’s dream became reality when she had 10 1/2” of her hair cut off at Donna’s Curls & Cuts in Stratton. Her hair is being sent to The Fringe Hair Company in Calgary, Alberta to be made in to a wig. The company requires at least 8” of “virgin” hair that has not been coloured, treated or permed.
Calli is so excited about sending her hair away, and hopes to inspire others to do the same for this worthwhile cause.
According to her mom, Krystal Vandenbrand. Calli is adorable with her new hair cut?
