Biggest Losers continue to lose weight

Biggest Losers
On May 8th, while Pat & Frank were away cruising to Alaska, and indulging in the bountiful cruise ship cuisine, 32 members of the Biggest Losers program met at the Bergland School for their weekly weigh-in.
Even at this stage of the program we welcomed one new member. The net loss for the week was 43.8 lbs. The Biggest Loser for the week was April Trenchard with a loss of 15.2 lbs.
On May 15th, 36 members weighed in with a net loss of 42.8 lbs. The Biggest Loser of the week was Linda Kreger with a loss of 4.2 lbs.
Trish Wood from the Valley Diabetes association presented a very interesting, educational & motivating presentation to approximately 25 members. She shared some very sobering statistics regarding the general health of Canadians.
She addressed the importance of rejecting all fad diets, stressing that Canada’s Food Guide should be our model for making healthy food choices and maintaining a healthy diet. We learned a new language - the “hand” language to determine what healthy portion sizes for various foods should be. Everyone was given a user-friendly slide rule type Food Guide to help keep track of daily requirements of each food group. Daily activity is absolutely essential in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. All those in attendance enjoyed Trish’s presentation & felt it was very beneficial.
An important reminder that on May 29th Heidi Ivall from the Health Unit will be our guest bringing us an informative and motivating presentation on healthy life styles.
