Canada Day help needed/from page one

Ken Johnston

The Rainy River Chamber of Commerce set its sights on July 1st festivities Monday when they held their regular monthly meeting.
However, without some help from groups in the community the event may end up only being bombs bursting in the air.
While members came up with a list of events the day may include, Chamber President Susan Carpenter said people are needed to help out. “If there are any groups or individuals interested in helping with one or a number of events they can give me a call.” Her number is 852-3343.
Jack Elliott has already confirmed that he will be holding the now famous Cardboard Boat Races.
The Rainy River Toy Library will be hosting a children’s entertainer in the park and the firemen will be lighting off the fireworks.
Last year was the first Canada Day parade in Rainy River in years and it is hoped that someone might step forward and help coordinate it.
Groups wanting to hold other activities that day are welcome.
Anyone interested in holding an event or helping with one of the ones above should call Susan Carpenter by the end of this week.
Chamber members will be meeting at the end of next week to firm up the schedule.
