April Trenchard named “The Biggest Loser”
Pat Stoyka
Biggest Losers
The grand finale of the Biggest Losers program was held on Sunday, June 18th.
Thirty two members weighed in and waited in anticipation for the math to be done and the Biggest Loser announced! It was no surprise that April Trenchard was the Biggest Loser, losing a total of 47 lbs. in the 12 week program and taking home the top prize of $300 as well as the coveted ‘massage’ complimentary of Cheryl Gauthier of the Harris Hill Resort. Adrienne Olson was the second biggest loser, (44.6 lbs) and the recipient of $200. MaryAnn Milne lost 30.8 lbs. and received $100 as her prize. Mark Medwechuk lost 29.6 lbs and received $75, Carol Clifford lost 28.4 lbs. and received $50. Kim McKenzie lost 26.8 lbs. ($25), Colleen Fadden lost 25.2 lbs. ($25), SuzanneLabonte lost 22.4 lbs. ($25), Fred (Giz) Jack lost 20.2 lbs. ($25) Jack Medwechuk lost 19.8 lbs. and received $25 and Angel Kovacsfi lost 19.2 lbs. and received $25.
Adrienne Olson was the biggest loser this week, losing 7.2 lbs. and receiving a fruit basket. Tonight the weight loss was 34 lbs. but many had just come from the local fish fry supper or ‘celebrated’ this weekend and thus we gained 24.6 lbs.!!! However the net loss was still 9.4 lbs.
The total weight lost by the group by the end of the 12 weeks was 565.1 lbs. This is a good indication that many are adopting a healthier life style; making better choices and incorporating some form of regular daily exercise . We are enthused and encouraged to carry on and many indicated they want to continue this program in the fall. Meanwhile a large number are enrolled in the summer 100 Mile Walk program sponsored by the local Health Unit. The enthusiastic support, camaraderie and encouragement we have received from one another has made these sessions fun and contributed to our success. Many have expressed appreciation for this arrangement and stated they never would have gotten serious about losing weight without the help of the group.
I would personally like to thank all the participants for taking on this challenge, for being so positive and supportive and such fun. Also I wish to thank all those who contributed to our contest: The Rainy River Clinic with their generous cash donation, Beaver Mills for providing fruit baskets every third week, Sarah at Rainy River Drugs for several prizes, Carrie Windsor for the Weight Watcher’s Cookbook, CIBC for a sports bag, Cheryl Gauthier for a ‘massage’ for the Biggest Loser and Pam at the Roadside Restaurant who also donated a prize for our contest. We also thank Mr. Olson for permitting us to use the McCrossen-Tovell School on Monday evenings.
