Sight and Sound squeaks out a win against Rainy
Ken Johnston
The top two teams in the league met in Rainy River last Tuesday as Rainy River hosted Sight and Sound of Fort Frances.
It was a pitcher’s dual most of the game with Murray Armstrong (RR) and John Desaulniers (FF) both having stellar nights.
In the third inning an error by Joel Ashworth on a throw to get a force at second eventually lead to “Beef” Windego scoring for Sight and Sound.
However the shortstop for Sight and Sound returned the favour in the bottom of the third allowing Murray Armstrong to advance and eventually score for RR and tie the game.
It would be three more innings before the pitchers would allow anyone to get into scoring position. In the top of the 6th Desaulniers hit a double off rival pitcher Armstrong. That scored Bob Andy and put Fort up 2-1.
In the bottom of the seventh Jim Chorney hit a single to start things off. He then stole second and eventually third base. Marty Armstrong then hit a double to score Chorney and tie the game and send it to an extra inning.
Desaulniers hit a single to start things for Fort. Derek McKinnon then hit a double scoring Desaulniers and go up 3-2.
In the bottom of the inning RR managed to get one runner on first but Desaulniers was tough. He struck three out to finish the game 3-2.
Last night Rainy River hosted Stratton. Scores were not available at press time.
