We could not believe they burned that field

Letter to the Editor:
We could not believe the Rainy River Fire Department burning the grass on the west side of our house July 1st. Everything was tinder dry and about 20 mph wind.There were hot embers flying everywhere on our deck, on our house and on our boat. The smoke was just terrible in the house and outside too.
We had to wet the deck down so it wouldn’t catch fire from the flying embers. I’m sure prior to July 1st they could have had a calm day to do this sensibly. Also if they didn’t know which way the wind was blowing they could have called us and we’d have told them.
Don has asthma and I also am susceptible to smoke so it was very uncomfortable for some time as our house was full of smoke.
