Tai Chi is great for all ages

On Monday July 17th a very significant event will begin in Northwestern Ontario. It is the International Forum on Taijiquan. Now there are many spellings but we all refer to Tai Chi as a martial arts system of self-defence and health. People from 5 to 95 can practice. I myself have trained in a couple of the styles and can attest to the many benefits.
But two of the main benefits to Northwestern Ontario are the prestige that hosting such an event brings and the economic impact. Six world-class masters representing 6 major Tai Chi systems will be conducting workshops, demonstrations and exercise forums.
As it continues from the 17th on to the 21st there will be many highlights. These will include the impressive opening ceremonies and feast at Historic Fort William on Monday night, classes outlining the history and evolution of these martial arts, special morning exercises at Marina Park and a phenomenal “Masters Showcase” with performances by the 6 Masters at the Auditorium on Thursday night.
Why would I use this column to promote Tai Chi? It is because I have seen firsthand the health benefits to people of all ages. Yes there is a social side to it as people of like-minds who want to live longer and better can attest. But for anyone who has ever had a heart problem the improvements in your circulation will make this lifestyle choice a very happy one indeed. The obvious reasons of stretching and toning are definite pluses but enhanced ease of breathing that comes from better circulation will make your body feel like the temple it is!
So see for yourself, join people from all over the world and register for all or parts of the programme but be sure to attend the Showcase on Thursday July 20th. It doesn’t matter if you have never trained before! Call this number 1-800-463-8817 or go to the website at info@taijiforum2006.ca
