RR Music Fest set to sing this Sunday
Ken Johnston
The Second Annual Rainy River Music Fest is set to take centre stage this Sunday at Hannam Park in Rainy River.
Sponsored by the Rainy River Evangelical Covenant Church, the Fest will feature area musicians singing religiously themed music. Returning to the Fest this year are The Longneckers, The Messengers (Gerry Jolicouer and Co.), GIFT, Caitlyn (nee Dyck) Friesen, Heidi Ivall and the Mast Family. New to the program this year will be Hugh and Rochelle Jensson, Jodi Brown and Friends and Grandma Jean Heard and Louise Grinstead.
The event is completely free of charge and last year attracted hundreds of people.
Event coordinator Gord Armstrong said that even though the hydro is going to be off for maintenance Sunday, “We have a bunch of generators lined up...so the show will go on!”
The day will kick off with an interdenominational church service at 10:30 a.m. in the park. At noon the music will begin and run until 3 p.m. at which time performers will take a break to let everyone watch the duct tape boat races. Once they are over the music will begin again, lasting until about 5 or 5:30 p.m.
The canteen will be open all day selling burgers, hot dogs and other goodies!
A free will offering will be collected with proceeds going to the new Covenant Church now under construction on Highway 11 in Rainy River.
Armstrong said that he is hopeful that the event can grow beyond one day. “If someone would like to partner with us and perhaps have a country western day on the Saturday next year, we can make it into a bigger event!”
The day promises to be fun for all members of the family with all kinds of music being featured throughout the day.
