Four want to be Emo Fair Queen
Ashley Jewett
Hi, my name is Ashley Jewett and I am 16 years old. I’m currently attending Grade 10 in Rainy River High School, but this fall I will be starting Grade 11.
I live in Stratton with my parents, Blaine and Connie, my two sisters, Megan and Emily, and my two brothers, Kyle and Brandon. I enjoy all sports, as well as camping, swimming, listening to music, and hanging out with my friends.
My future plans are to attend university and become a pediatrician.
I would like to thank Shawn McDonald from Stratton Service for sponsoring me, and also my family and all my friends for supporting me. I don’t know any of the girls who are running, but I really hope I have a chance to get to know all of them a bit this summer.
Good luck, girls!
Alyssa Vanderaa
Hey! My name is Alyssa Vanderaa. I am 15 years old and will be entering Grade 11 at Fort Frances High School in the fall. I live in Fort Frances with my parents, Anita and Tony Vanderaa.
I am an honour roll student, work at Pharmasave, and I love to play basketball. I play on the Muskies’ basketball team at Fort High. And whenever I can, I love to be at my cabin and wakeboard.
I also love to snowboard and hang out with my friends. Another passion I have is to dance. I’ve danced for seven years now, and I really enjoy performing on stage and competing in dance competitions.
A great big “thank you” to Chantelle Spuzak who has made that possible and also for sponsoring me (Dancemakers School of Dance and Beauty Essentials). She always puts us dancers first.
I can’t thank her enough!
When I graduate, I plan to pursue a career in athletic therapy, helping injured athletes recover and continue to do what they love to do best.
Best of luck Sam, Brittany, and Ashley. I can’t wait for all the memories. Have fun!
Samantha Loveday
Hello, my name is Samantha Loveday. I am 15 years old and will be attending Fort Frances High School in the fall as a Grade 11 student.
I was born and raised in Fort Frances by my parents, Allan and Julie Loveday. I am also blessed with a six-year-old brother named Noah.
When I was four years old, I encountered figure skating. I have been attending figure skating now for almost 12 years. I enjoy competing, testing, and putting on good shows. I love entertaining people.
I also have formed some very valuable friendships through this sport and a special role model, Nicole Katona-Campbell, my coach of 12 years. Also, I myself have coached the Canskate and junior programs of skating for a number of years now.
At present, I am deciding on a career choice. I am struggling between becoming a registered nurse, like my mom, or a teacher.
I know I love interacting and helping people. I do volunteer work with Family and Children Services at their summer camps, and I receive great satisfaction with this.
I am fortunate enough to live on Rainy Lake. My true love is the water. My favourite thing of all times is wakeboarding.
I would like to thank my sponsor, D. McCool Transport, who have been very kind to me. I also would like to thank my family and friends for supporting me.
As long as I can remember, every August I attend the Emo Fair. I have many good memories there, so this is very exciting for me to be a part of the Emo Fair.
Thank you for this opportunity. I know that I and the other contestants are going to have a lot of fun.
Brittany Galusha
Hey, there. My name is Brittany Galusha. I’m 16-years-old and will be attending Grade 11 this September at Fort Frances High School.
I live with my parents, Angela and Ted Galusha, in Fort Frances. My only sibling, Mason, who is 13, lives with us, too.
I enjoy hanging out with friends and playing sports like house league hockey, basketball, volleyball, and soccer. I also love the summer and just being on the lake.
Fishing, wakeboarding, and camping are awesome pastimes. Dancing, singing, and snowboarding interest me, too. I just love having a great time.
During the summer, I spend most of my time at Bill and Nell’s Lake Despair Lodge, where my family keeps our camper all year long.
In the future, I hope to attend a college to become an interior designer. I love to design rooms.
I would like to take this time to thank my sponsor, McLean’s Auto Body (Kevin McLean and Kari Mosbeck), for all the help. Also my best buds, Kristin Pocock and Michelle McFayden, and my family for all the help.
I’m looking forward to all the fun times and good experiences with the girls this summer. Good luck Alyssa, Sam, and Ashley!
