Get ready for the RR Labour Day Classic Fastball teams to converge on Rainy River this weekend
Ken Johnston
Every Labour Day weekend is synonymous with fastball in Rainy River and this year will be no different. The Rainy River Royals will be hosting their annual fastball tournament this Saturday and Sunday. So far they have five teams signed up and room for at least one more. A Winnipeg team, The Plum Coulee Farmers, Sight & Sound (Fort Frances), Barwick Blue Knights, Stratton Bobcats and the RR Royals are set to square off beginning Saturday morning. Games will start at either 9 or 10 that morning. The event will begin Friday evening with the Royals hosting their annual $1,000 dance at the Legion Hall. It is Age of Majority and features Yowza Music. Organizer, Don Gall, is hoping that a slowpitch tourney can run simultaneously this year and is taking entries until Friday at noon. If interested call him at 807-852-1203 or on his cell at 807-275-8211. The ball tournament(s) will run until Sunday afternoon. Gall predicts the finals will be approximately at 4 p.m. but encourages people to stop by the Rainy River Community Centre and check the draw out.
