New kindergarten teacher excited about year ahead

Riverview Elementary School has a new kindergarten teacher this year.
Andrea Domanski, a native of Fort Frances, graduated in May at the University of Western Ontario, in London, Ont. While she started out studying business she eventually realized that she wanted to be able to have a career in which she could use her creative side.
Domanski loves “artsy stuff” including music and oil painting. The painting lead her to work with young kids at the public library and that cinched it for her. She switched gears and moved away from business and towards teaching.
It is not a decision she regrets noting that she is just loving her new job. She has 23 junior and senior kindergarten students throughout the week. The sr. kids attend every day and the jr. on Tues. and Thurs.
“It is sure fun to watch them change from the beginning of the year to the end of it,” said Domanski. She said that the kids covered a unit on dreaming last week and talked about what they dream school will like. “It will be interesting to see how that changes over the year.”
Domanski said the big push at this grade level is oral language. “ I went to a workshop in Thunder Bay on this.” She said the province has keyed in on getting the kids ready for grade 1, especially reading readiness.
Outside the classroom, Domanski enjoys playing the piano and said that she really likes Rainy River. She has chosen to live here rather than commute from Fort Frances where her family lives.
