159 kids compete in Devlin to go to Chess provincials

Northern Ontario Schools Championships - Cross Roads School , Devlin, Ont. Sept. 29, 2006
 a) This is the qualifier to go onto the Northern Ontario Regionals in Thunder Bay on Oct 21, 2006.
b) 159 Students attended and they played almost 800 games of chess in one day.  Last year, our district had the largest tournament with 129 players so we have a great shot again this year.
c) We had students from Riverview, SCAP, Sturgeon Creek, McCrossen Tovel, Our Lady of the Way, Donald Young, Cross Roads, St Francis, Robert Moore, JW Walker and Mine Center.
d) Had great team of volunteers and school staff from across the district who helped make this tournament a great success.
e) The Royal Canadian Legion Major Hughes Branch 54 sponsored our prizes again this year, 30 subscriptions to Scholar’s Mate a chess magazine for kids.
