Hospital Aux. to hold monster bingos for CT scanner

Seventeen members came to our October meeting, and it was really nice to see them all. I missed the September meeting, Buddy Hannam took notes, and I will try to cover both meetings. Thank you Buddy.
In September we had both Dean Cunningham and Teresa Hazel at our meeting. They brought information on the 32 slice C.T. Scanner to be purchased by the Riverside Health Care, to be located in a special room at the LaVerendrye Hospital. This would benefit the whole district. Approval for the purchase has been received, and we can go ahead with the fund raising. The cost is 1.5 million. Seventy-five to a hundred people a week are now sent to different locations (T. Bay, Kenora, Steinbach, Wpg) and with one so close we could possibly draw people from Atikokan and other near by centres as well.
The October meeting also covered some discussion on the above, and ideas for fund raising were brought forward. One of these will be a monster bingo, held once a month, from November to March. They will be on the third Friday of each month at the community centre. All proceeds to go toward the cost of the scanner.
Our meeting continued with some local regular businesses. We will give 2 - $10 certificates to the Body Wellness Program, as a prize to the Biggest Loser. Volunteers are needed at the exercise programme to be present in case of a mishap. Several of our members are using this programme, and will give of their time. There is no one going to Toronto Conference this year. We will be hosting the Spring Conference for 12 west here. Our Christmas Bazaar will be Dec. 3.
We concluded our meeting with Audree Paulson giving a report of the Fall Conference held in Dryden. The main topic was a flu Pandemic and how we could best be prepared for it. They stressed getting your flu shot, washing hands, having extra foods on hand in case you are not able to get out, etc. Thank you Audree for the informative review.
Our raffle for the Christmas Bazaar will be two $100 gift certificates, one from each store, Beaver Mills and Susan’s Corner Store. It is 2 draws, $100 each. The meeting adjourned, our next one being at the hospital on Nov 6th. See you there.
