9 members of the Lake of the Woods (Bergland) Women’s Institute and visitor Florence Newman met at the home of Ellen Chojko-Bolec for the October Branch meeting. The Mary Stewart Collect was recited in unison.
Roll call was “something that you are thankful for”. We have so much to be thankful for in our country and members listed family, health, community, nature and fall colours, and little incidents in life that teach patience, thoughtfulness and love.
The minutes and financial report was accepted and bills were paid. We will again buy a wreath from the Legion and Ellen Chojko-Bolec will represent our Branch at the Cenotaph on Nov. 11.
Reports of committees: Sick and Visiting - reported on the cards that were sent and the visiting that was done and a list of those people who need our thoughts, cards and visits was made for this month.
Museum - The 50s and 60s dance held in Sept. was great fun and enjoyed by those people present. It was particularly good to see all the families with children there. A good number of people entered in the Elvis Contest to the great enjoyment of the audience. This was a joint fundraiser with the Emo Library.
The Fall Luncheon, closing the season, was held at the Emo Legion and was a profitable event, which was hosted by Morson Branch.
The Harvest Supper to be held on Saturday, Oct.21 at the Bergland Hall will be hosted by Forest, Morson and Lake of the Woods Branches. There will be lots of good food, door prizes, entertainment, and a silent auction. We hope to see a good crowd out to support the WI. Museum.
At the present time WI members are packing the artifacts at the Museum and hope to be ready to move them to one of the OPP homes on Tyrell Street by the end of October. The Museum property on the highway will be put up for sale. The Municipality of Emo has been extremely supportive and helpful to the WI in this move.
Our Branch will rent tables at the Christmas Craft Sale on Nov. 18 at the Bergland Hall. We will make and sell lefse and handmade crafts.
Hostess Ellen guided us through the art of making a beaded angel. There was a lot of laughter and visiting as we worked on the craft. A discussion was held on changing the format of our Branch meetings. Several interesting suggestions were made and a decision will be made at the Nov. meeting, which will be held at Karen Sepers on the 13th.
