Local kids run well at Thunder Bay Cross Country meet

Mark Jodoin
Coach

On October 17, part of our cross country team traveled to Big Grassy for a 4 Km, Run which saw runners (gr. 4 to 8) from 4 schools participate. Our participants did an awesome job of representing Riverview. Their excellent performance and behaviour were commented on by several of the other coaches. Final results were:
Girls ( 22 runners) - Emily Fraser- 3rd , Skylar Arpin and Jenna Jarvis tied for 4th , Lindsey Westover- 8th, Cassie Westover-10th, and Shelby Tympkin-11th.
Boys (28 runners) - Nolan Short-6th and Zack Tolen-11th.
On October 21, 7 runners took part in the Mid-Canada Elementary School Run, held in Thunder Bay. It was an awesome site to see approximately 250 runners lined up to start the girls race and about the same for the boys. The Run was open to runners up to gr. 8 and saw participants from all over northern Ontario. Over 40 schools participated.
The runners from Riverview did a super job and achieved excellent results, especially considering the age difference among the runners. All seven runners managed to finish in the top half of their race. Results were as follows:
Girls - Saragh Fraser 9th, Skylar Arpin 21st, Jenna Jarvis 30th, Emily Fraser 94th, and Shelby Tympkin 116th.
Boys - Nolan Short 74th and Zack Tolen 125th.
To achieve these types of results by such young runners was excellent, and to be able to crack the top ten in this run was fantastic for Saragh. The effort by all runners just goes to show that even though we have a small school, we can accomplish great things. Can’t wait till next year!
