What about the younger generation candidates?
Kathryn Unger
Letter to the editor,
My husband and I attended the all candidates meeting, since living in Rainy River only for five months, we wanted to hear the candidates points of view.
However, as the evening progressed, and each had their four questions and time frame, in the end we found that they had forgotten about the generation of people under the age of 50.
With this younger generation, there are many services that also need support, such as churches, educational programs as the Resource Centre and the new child care centre.
What is going to keep these children, teenagers and young families in this community? With the lack of jobs, etc. these groups tend to leave and go to Winnipeg, Fort Frances, Kenora, Thunder Bay etc.
As candidates for both Council and Mayor, what are they going to do to keep them in Rainy River or attract them into this area.
Having served as volunteer on the Economic Development Committee both in Carman, MB. and Schreiber, ON. I know it is important that Rainy River promotes itself not only as a community to retire in, but as a place where you can raise a family.
My husband and I moved here, so that I could be a part of a vision that a group of people had for young children.
We hope that both young and old work toward making Rainy River stand out both in this area and in NW Ontario.
