Lloyd George "Gus" Lindberg
With his family by his side, we announce with deep sadness the passing of our father and grandfather Lloyd George "Gus" Lindberg, age 77, of 725 Morrison Cresc., Fort Frances, Ontario at LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ontario on Friday, November 10, 2006.
Gus was born on January 18, 1929 in Rainy River, Ontario to the late Olaf and Margaret Lindberg.
In earlier years, he was united in marriage to Madeleine Cleroux. Gus had worked for the Canadian National Railway for 37 years, from 1947 until his retirement in 1984. Gus was a member of the Fort Frances Town Council for thirteen years, and served as Deputy Mayor for six of those years. He was chairman of Rainycrest Home for Aged for six years and chairman of the Social Service Board for eight years. He served as a member of the Police Services Board for four years and a board member of Family and Children’s Services for eight years. Gus’s love and enthusiasm for sports was well known by family and friends in the community. Gus was the owner of Standard Bred Race Horses for thirteen years. For many years, Gus coached minor hockey and acted as Convener for Fort Frances Minor Hockey. Gus also umpired fastball throughout the district for
thirty-seven years and just recently retired this past season. He also owned and operated Borderland International Hockey School for many years.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Melvin and infant brother Llewelyn; and his brother-in-law Henry Jarvis.
Gus is survived by his three sons, Martin and friend Lori of Fort Frances, ON., friend Fawn Lindberg, mother of Gus’s grandson Brent of Fort Frances, ON.; Christopher and wife Anita of Calgary, Alta., and Timothy and fiancé Sherrie of Calgary, Alta.; three grandchildren, Brent of Fort Frances, ON., and Olivia, and Cooper both of Calgary, Alta. He is also survived by his two sisters, Helen Jarvis of Rainy River, ON. and Dora May Strutt of Calgary, Alta., and numerous nieces and nephews; and his dogs and best buddies, Buster and Abby.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at the Knox United Church in Fort Frances, Ontario with Reverend Jill Warner officiating. Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances, Ontario.
Honourary pallbearers will be Bruce Spottiswood, Larry Kellar, George Oltsher, Dave Egan, Gerry Hawley, Vaughn Murray, Wally Shold, Brent Lindberg, Glen Lindberg, Paul McLauglin, and Anthony Kadikoff Sr.
