RRHS starts a sports committee
Ashley Sharp
SC Reporter/Treasurer
There is some great news coming out of Rainy River High School (RRHS)! A group of energetic students have started a sports committee.
This group will be fund raising to support the school’s athletic programs and they hope to increase school spirit both within the school and in the community. This is a student driven committee which consists of: Kaylie Lundgren as Chair, Katelyn Nielson as Secretary, Ashley Sharp as Treasurer and members Dayna Seguin, Nadia Johnson, Aislinn Johnson, and Zack Sopotiuck.
The main goals for this year are to raise money for new boys’ volleyball uniforms, to get the school involved in home games by decorating, holding more pep rallies and of course to have FUN!! In order to raise money the committee will be opening the Owl’s Nest every Wednesday and offering a hot lunch and snacks, as well as, selling school merchandise. Weekly news updates will appear in the Record.
Last week the girls and boys basketball teams started their season. Tryouts have begun and the teams will be picked over the next two weeks. Good luck everyone!
Curling also started last week. RRHS has one girls team and one boys team this year. The girls will be curling in the Rainy River League in order to prepare for their competitions and the boys will curl in the Stratton League. If you get a chance go and check them out!
The Lake of the Woods High Hockey has also hit the ice with several of RRHS’ students playing. The first girls game is on November 18th at 5:30 in Baudette. Let’s go and cheer for our girls.
Drama club is under way and would love for more participants. They meet every Monday after school. With over half the school involved in extra curricular activities it should be an exciting year. Good Luck to all!
If you have any questions about the sports committee or if you would like to help out please call the High School at 852-3284.
That’s all from the Owl’s Nest for this week.
