While some snow might get more people in the Christmas Spirit, Rainy River’s Merchants are gearing up to get people in the mood!
Beginning next week Christmas fun for everyone will begin in Rainy River. On Tuesday, November 28, 2007, participating merchants will hold a three week Christmas promotion. Passport to Christmas will begin with the insertion of your official Passport in the Rainy River Record. So be sure to save it!
Inside the passport will be a Christmas tree in which every ornament on the tree will contain a local business’s name. Take your passport with you when you shop. When you spend $10 or more the merchant will stamp your passport (some restrictions may apply at some businesses so check with them when you visit). Get some of them or all of them, but the more you get the more gift certificates you can win at the end of the three week promotion.
First place will win $20 times the number of stamps on their passport. In other words if get ten stamps you would win $200 in gift certificates. Second place will receive $10 times the number of stamps on the passport.
Once you have your passport as full as you think you can get it drop it off in the draw drum at the Rainy River Post Office. On December 19th pick up the Rainy River Record to see who won and how much they won! The promotion runs from Nov. 28th to December 17th.
Friday December 1st the Chamber will be hosting its annual Santa Claus Parade of lights. There are several floats already entered and the Chamber will be offering cash prizes for the best ones. To enter a float call Chamber President Susan Carpenter at Susans Corner Store 852-3343. Floats are asked to line up at the bottom of Main St. about 30 minutes before the parade begins at 6 p.m. The parade route is straight up Main.
After the parade the town Christmas tree will be lit next to Gillons Insurance and then Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit with youngsters there with goody bags for all the kids (If the weather is bad they will visit with the kids at the RR Rec. Centre).
