The sound of Christmas music is coming back to Rainy River and Pinewood after a two year absence.
After the passing of Rainy River Community Choir Director Stephanie Hawkins, the choir was without a director and did not host any concerts last year.
However, this year they are back in action under the direction of Kathi Berggren of Baudette. She has been a music teacher at Lake of the Woods School for 26 years and is a 1981 graduate of Bemidji State University with a double major in Vocal Music and Elementary Education.
The choir, 31 members strong, will hold two Christmas concerts this year. The first one is this Sunday in Pinewood at the Catholic Church, at 7:30 p.m. and the second one is Monday evening in Rainy River at the Catholic Church at 7:30 p.m.
They have special instrumental guests, Jacquie Dufresne, Kitty Gale and Janet Peterson lined up to perform at the beginning and throughout the concert.
The full choir will perform “It’s in His Name, Calypso Carol, Peace Carol, Corol of the Bells, Sweet Little Jesus Boy and Go With A Song in Your Heart.” Soloists Heidi Ivall and Norma-Jean Johnston will perform as will the Mast Family Chorus and a quartet featuring Kim Desserre, Anne Mailloux, Laurie Pentney and Norina Sopotiuck. There will be plenty of great Christmas music both nights and the public is invited to come.
