Morson Women’s Institute celebrates cell phone open house

JoAnn Moen
Secretary

The Morson Women’s Institute held its final meeting of 2006 at the Morson Community Centre on November 22nd.
Items discussed included the availability of lottery to our W. I. and the Cell Tower Open House held on November 17th.
Roll call was to bring items for the local food bank, as they are in need of contributions. Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted, and various bills passed for payment.
Nancy attended the lotteries seminar, and will be working towards the necessary paperwork to bring our Organization into compliance with lottery regulations. Strict guidelines must be followed regarding the use of lottery funds.
The Cell Tower Open House was well attended by many dignitaries, as well as representation from several of the Municipalities and First Nations in the Rainy River District. Their attendance and show of support was greatly appreciated.
Many local residents also came to see the demonstration on how the new system will work in our community for the cell service, as well as high speed internet. The tower will be a big asset to our community for the local people, the tourist industry, as well as the commercial sector. They have access to digital cell as well as high speed internet services.
Kris and JoAnn will attend the museum fund raiser on December 2nd at Emo.
A contribution was made to the Township of Lake of the Woods to assist towards expenses for the Morson Hall.
Final plans for our December 16th Christmas party include our usual potluck, an invitation to the community to attend, a visit from Santa and musical entertainment performed by Hwy 621.
Our next meeting will be held February 22nd, 2007 at Helen’s in Rainy River. The public is invited to attend.
