RRWT emcee Lionel Robert passes away
Ken Johnston
Residents of the Rainy River District were shocked when news that Lionel Robert, 54, had passed away on Dec. 27, 2006.
Robert became very well known throughout the district as the emcee at many fishing tournaments including the Rainy River Walleye Tournament.
He had a special way of engaging the crowd and competitors while on stage. But Robert’s pizzazz on stage did not end there. Off stage he got to know many, many residents and was good at remembering people he had met from year to year. He will truly be missed by all who have known him and filling his shoes at the tournament will be a tough act to follow.
In his obituary it said:
Taken too soon, our much loved husband, son, pop pepere and brother passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006 at the age of 54 years.
He was predeceased by his father Marius, father and mother-in-law Ernest and Flore Rochon, and brothers-in-law Ken and George.
Lionel will be greatly missed by his loving wife Lise (nee Rochon); his daughters Lynne (Dallas) and Jocelyne (Jaret); his son Guy (Taylor), his mother Lorraine; his brothers and sisters, Richard (Janet), Maurice (Sharon), Leo (Diane), Aurele (Angie), Marriette (Denis), Donald (Claudette), Corine, Lise, Nicole (Jerry), Michelle (Bruce) and Angele; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jean (Claudette), Paulette (Claude), Gilles (Linda), Louis (Jackie), and Henri (Madeleine) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Having a great knowledge and passion for fishing, Lionel was often called upon to be Master of Ceremonies or to organize and coordinate fishing derbies for various events and organizations.
Funeral services were held Jan. 2, 2007 at 1 p.m. in Winnipeg, MB.
