The Lake of the Woods/Rainy River/Indus Girls High School Hockey team lost two games last week.
On January 2nd they travelled to East Grand Forks where they had fans on the edge of their seats.
Karley Thompson opened the scoring in the first period for LoW/RR with a goal at 1:45. She was assisted by Courtney Bitter and Meaghan Jasper.
But EGF answered back at 2:14.
At 13:40 Bitter regained the lead for LoW/RR/Indus with an unassisted goal.
There was no scoring in the 2nd period.
Midway through the 3rd period EGF tied the game up at 8:13.
It was to be decided in over time with EGF winning 3-2 at the 6:49 mark. LoW outshot EGF 32-19.
On Jan. 6th Low/RR/Indus travelled to face the Silver Bay (MN) Mariners where they were shut out 9-0 and outshot 33-11.
Coach Mike Mosher said, “We’ve dropped three games in a row, and we will need additional focus and continued hard work as only eight games remain on our schedule. We need to do a better job of controlling the puck in the defensive zone, and we need to do a better job of capitalizing on every scoring opportunity. We have challenged the girls to raise their level of play and hope they respond accordingly.
Their next game is tonight in Warroad and they are hosting Fort Frances this Thursday at Rainy River arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m. and the public is welcome.
