Dog bylaw means nothing
Dear Editor,
I am using your paper to inform the people of Rainy River that there is a typographical error in the insert that we received with the sewer and water bill.
The insert is titled Warning Dog Owners. The second paragraph reads as follows ”Dog owners that fail to comply fully with this By-law will risk the consequences of your pet being dealt with according to the said By-law.” It should be corrected to read: Dog owners that fail to comply fully with this By-law will NOT risk the consequences of your pet being dealt with according to the said By-law.
On Friday April 14, 2006 at 5:45 p.m, my dog was viciously attacked by another dog that came into MY YARD! She succumbed to her injuries on April 21, 2006 despite the excellent medical care she received. This attack was reported to the OPP and the Town of Rainy River.
The owner subsequently received a letter on May 2, 2006 of which I received a copy. In it it stated “”Further, the Town of Rainy River, at this time, shall deem this to be a first warning .
Should subsequent incidents of running at large and/or attacks be reported to the Municipal Office, the Town of Rainy River will have no option, but to require the animal put to sleep.”
Well in September this dog attacked again and was reported to the Town of Rainy River. NOTHING HAPPENED!! A letter was written and hand delivered to the Town of Rainy River municipal office by my husband asking them why they chose to do NOTHING. We have yet to receive a response to this letter. So, Dog Owners in the Town of Rainy River, these by-laws and warnings mean nothing, you can let your dogs run at large and be destructive all you want and you don’t have to be responsible for their actions because NOTHING WILL BE DONE!!
