Armstrongs win RR mixed

Last year’s “B” Event champions tuned their game up a bit this year and set their sites on the brass ring at the annual Rainy River mixed bonspiel over the weekend.
Davy Armstrong’s Rainy River rink won the second event last year but made it to the “A” Event this year against another local rink; Tim Nordin and company.
Armstrong stole one in the first when Nordin made a take out but rolled out to leave Davy one.
Nordin threw a perfect draw to the button in the second end to tie the game 1-1.
Armstrong also was throwing perfect stones. In the third he took out Nordin’s rock to count four and lead 5-1.
Nordin then rallied in the fourth to pick up two and narrow the lead 5-3.
But Armstrong never looked back after that. He drew in for two in the fifth and then cinched the deal with two more in the sixth. Nordin resigned and Armstrong won 9-3.
The “B” Event was over after six as well as the Adam Bolen rink faced Aaron Armstrong’s crew. Bolen scored one in the first and Armstrong returned the favour in the second. However, it was all Bolen after that. He scored three in the third, four in the fourth and one in each of the next two ends to win 10-1.
In the “C” Event it was Dale Morrison’s rink against Fred Foulger. Foulger had his chances to stay in the game but just came up short in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th ends. By then it was 6-0 and Morrison scored two more in the 5th to clinch it at 8-0.
