R.D. Koeneman Lumber of Rainy River was visited by a bailiff last week who didn’t come for a friendly visit.
The Bailiff was ordered by the town of Rainy River to seize the property in lieu of back-taxes.
The plant which has been operating only on a spotty basis since it was built about five years ago, had not been in operation at the time.
It was originally built to remanufacture lumber, It received federal funding for its construction and later some funding to train lumber graders. However it never really fully operated for any great length of time.
One source told the Record that the company owes the town of Rainy River $70,000 in back taxes.
