Curling definitely is the sport of choice in the Bonot and Lee families of Stratton.
Feb. 22-24 the Bryan Bonot, Terry Lee, Don Bolen and Nevin Bonot won the Royal Canadian Legion Senior Men’s Provincial competition in Manitoba. They are now qualified to go to National’s on March 23-30, 2002 in eastern Ontario.
Lee said that they first played about a month ago for the Legion Zones. They faced Sioux Lookout and Fort Frances and won. Then it was off to Kilarney, Manitoba where they faced 9 teams. After round robin play they were in a three way tie for first with Transcona and Gladstone. However having beat those two teams in round robin play Bonot’s foursome received a bye to the finals. The other two battled it out and the winner faced Bonot. However Bonot handled them effectively winning the championship 6-2.
Representing the Emo Legion Br. 99, Lee said they are looking forward to the Nationals at the end of the month. About the same time Bryan Bonot’s son will be playing in the NWOSSA playdowns trying to win a spot at the All Ontarios for high school curling.
Lee’s daughter, Angela, also won the College title the same weekend as they won the Legions (see other story in this edition).
