Area figure skaters bring home medals

Six young ladies from the Rainy River and Baudette area recently competed in the Thunder Bay open. Some 450 skaters vied for medals in dozens of categories.
Molly Tharalson scored high marks in several categories. She came in 4th in Pre-preliminary Ladies Elements; earned a bronze in Pre-preliminary Ladies Freeskate; 9th in Preliminary Ladies Spins; and a silver in Pre-preliminary Team Event.
Athena Pirkl picked up a 9th place finish in the Junior Bronze Ladies Elements; 11th in Junior Bronze Ladies Spins; and 4th in the Junior Bronze Team Event.
Kalene Krause won gold in the Pre-preliminary Ladies Freeskate; and 4th in Preliminary Spins.
Kendra Krause picked up a 6th place finish in Pre-preliminary Team Event; and a bronze in the Challenge Event.
Meaghan Jasper placed 6th in the Pre-preliminary Team Event; and a bronze in the Challenge Event.
Madison Boisvert brought home a gold medal in Hipswingers.
Recent Testing
On March 9, 2002, Molly Tharalson and Athena Pirkl attended a high test day in Kenora. Molly passed the Junior Silver Fox-trot in the Dance Series and Athena passed the Starlight Waltz in the Senior Silver Dance Series.
