Chapple clerk honoured for 25 years of service
Milt Guba
Township of Chapple Municipality honoured one of their staff members, Doris Dyson, in recognition of 25 years of service as Clerk-Treasurer on Friday with a Come an Go Tea at the Municipal Office.
Chapple Reeve, Bill Clink presented her with a crystal vase which was later filled with 36 white and pink carnations. A pot of flowers courtesy of C.I.B.C. graced the Municipal meeting table.
This was like any ordinary working day for Doris, she relaxed with friends, taking it easy and enjoying her day to its fullest. During the twenty-five years Dyson has seen several changes take place. She started with the pen/pencil method, eraser, adding machine, typewriter and sheets of paper galore all over the desk. But later in years technology changed all that and Dyson wound up with a computer, which steadily advanced. Filing and storage was now at hand, although the work is still there, it is easily accessed.
Reeve Clink also presented a plaque to Dyson that said, “with grateful appreciation to Doris Dyson in recognition of 25 years service as Clerk-Treasurer at the Township of Chapple Municipality.” After the brief ceremony Doris cut the cake and everyone present enjoyed a piece with refreshment.
Doris and family came from Manitoba in 1964 to the Rainy River District. They settled in Emo and she began working for the Township of Chapple in 1972 part time. The office was located within the Village of Barwick and Cecil Wilson was the Clerk-Treasurer. When Cecil decided to give up the job as Clerk in 1976 Doris applied for the position.
There have been many changes over the years, from the building of a new Municipal building, the implementation of computers, water and sewer in the village and streets and sidewalks to name a few. In the past 25 years Doris worked for 6 different Reeves and Councils and with Assistant Sis Woolsey, prior to Cheryl Hagen.
