Area teens challenged by Christian group

Milt Guba

Approximately 100 youth from across the district attended a Saturday afternoon of fun at Hang Man’s Hill and later fellowship at the Christian Reformed Church. In attendance was a group of five ministry teams associated with Teen Challenge from Central Canada. The Teen Challenge Band included music and powerful testimonies were heard and enjoyed by all those attending.
The leader of the group said, “there are 300 plus centres worldwide with 130 in the United States and Canada,” since its founding in 1958 by Rev. David Wilkerson in Brooklyn NY. Teen Challenge has grown to include treatment centres worldwide. It is a non-denominational and non profit Christian organization that operates residential treatment centres for people 18 to 45 years of age, and enjoys success rates that are truly miraculous. The Teen challenge cure rates are 70 to 86 percent which are up to ten times the results obtained by other treatment approaches. Through Biblical principles, the program teaches self discipline, commitment, and respect for one another.
Individuals are introduced to God as a loving Father, and forgiveness of sin through Jesus Christ. It is this realization and God’s loving touch that heals the deep wounds of these individuals, making lasting changes in the lives that the world has discarded.
Heroin, other hard drugs, and alcohol are a major problem in today’s society with recent studies pointing to an increase not a decrease in substance abuse. Despite Teen Challenges greatest efforts, drug and alcohol addiction continues to devastate many lives and families. Teen Challenge is there for those who have nowhere to turn.
