Stratton rink wins RR Mixed

It was over in four ends and Craig Armstrong’s Stratton rink made it look easy at the annual Rainy River Mixed Bonspiel Sunday.

Craig, along with Heidi Bolen-Kreger, Terry Lee and Kelly Nielson were ahead 8-0 after three ends over Donna Ivall’s rink which consisted of Otto Budziak, Larry Armstrong and Myrna Armstrong.

In the B event it was the battle of the Br(yi)ans. Bryan Bonot’s rink of Stratton faced off against Brian Russell’s Rainy River Rink. Bonot jumped ahead to a 3-0 lead by the end of the 2nd end. Russell tied it in the 3rd and 4th ends. Bonot took a one point lead in the 5th.

Then in the 6th, Russell was coming down to take one point and missed his shot and gave Bonot three points for a 7-3 lead. In the 7th, Russell scored two but that was as close as he would get to the win. Bonot added one more in the 8th and won it 8-5.

In the C event it all came down to the skip’s rocks between the Aaron Armstrong and Peter Grant rinks. It was tied 1-1 after two ends. Grant scored two in the third but Armstrong answered back with a three ender in the fourth.

In the 6th Grant scored two and again Armstrong answered with two in the 7th. Grant with the hammer had to make a draw to the button to win. The line looked good to bump Armstrong’s button sitting rock, then two thirds of the way down the rock picked up something and bent too far. Armstrong stole one to win the event.
