According to Dick Koeneman, coowner of Koeneman Lumber Company in Rainy River, the bench warrants were lifted for him and the other owner, Myron Williams on March 8, 2002.
Koeneman said there was a mix up with his lawyer and that is why he and Williams were not represented at court in Rainy River on March 7, 2002. Due to the strike by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union the Record could not confirm that the warrants were in fact lifted.
Koeneman’s lawyer, Larry Phillips, could not comment on the case as Koeneman had not given him written authorization to do so.
Koeneman said that he and Williams will be represented in court on April 4, 2002.
The company was charged by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) with five counts of failing to notify WSIB within three days after learning of an injury to an employee, and three counts of failing to provide an employee wage statement.
The charges are violations under sections 152(3) and 152 (1.1) respectively of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. In addition Koeneman himself has been charged with three counts of failing to provide an employee wage statement and Williams has been charged with five counts of failing to notify WSIB within three days after learning of an injury to an employee at their plant in Rainy River.
