Chapple needs $500,000 to meet clean water standards

Chapple’s Council meeting included the following reports.
One received from CBO Frank Berg for February.
Roads Supt. Jim Teeple reported to Council, the road crew have been working on the new fire rescue truck prior to the safety being done.
Council discussed the quotes received on the trench box and it was decided that for now they would consider renting a box when required, or working with an adjoining Township who may have one.
Tendering for the crushing and stockpiling at the Shenston and LaBatch pit was set.
Clerk Treasurer Doris Dyson reported on the groundwater project. The meeting for choosing the Consultant has been held with KGS being chosen.
A conference call was held with Steve Burnett from RJ Burnside Engineering. Steve outlined what has been done so far on the OSTAR application and what remains to be completed. The estimate cost to finalize the project is $500,000, and then Chapple would be in compliance with the Ontario Drinking Water Standards and Regulations.
The following motion was passed:
And Whereas The Corporation of the Township of Chapple recognizes that the supply of safe drinking water is our highest public health and safety priority. Now therefore be resolved that the Municipal Council of the Township of Chapple hereby authorize the application for Ontario small town and rural development infrastructure program (OSTAR) funding under Round Ont. and that funding application shall be a total of $500,000.
Fire Chief Larry Hunsperger spoke to Council concerning the Fire Department and the outfitting of the new rescue van.
Councillor Peter VanHeyst reported that DSSAB held a meeting concerning housing. DSSAB is in the process of hiring a new maintenance person for Rainy River.
Councillor Rilla Race reported on the Recreation meeting that she had attended.
The Council moved that Dorothy Huitikka be hereby appointed as Chapple’s representative on the Rainy River District ODRAP committee.
Council moved that KGS be hereby appointed as consultants on the Groundwater study in the amount of $88,300.00.
A motion to participate in a study on converting the DSSAB to ASB was passed.
