RR Open revived

After a two year hiatus the Rainy River Open Golf Tournament is making a comeback.
The 31st RR Open was held in 2004 as part of the community’s centennial. After that no one wanted to do the footwork and organize the tournament. This year Bob McGreevy and Angie Armstrong, along with several other volunteers agreed it was time for a revival.
The 32nd Annual RR Open will be held on Aug. 5, 2007. That is a Sunday which is a departure from years gone by when the tournament was held on the Monday of the August long weekend. “It was suggested by past participants that we move it to the Sunday. Running late in the day it is hard for someone from far away to get home at a decent time.”
The tournament will begin with a shot-gun start at 8:30 a.m. and run 18 holes all day until completed. McGreevy said they hope to wrap up golfing by 3:30-4 p.m. and then hold awards ceremonies the clubhouse at Oak Harbor Golf Course.
The tournament is open to past residents, current residents or friends of someone who is or was a resident.
In the Championship Men’s Flight participants can qualify to participate through the same residency requirements or attended school in Rainy River. “Some people may not have lived in RR (i.e. Morson, Stratton, etc.) but may have gone to school here. They would qualify,” explained McGreevy.
The number of flights will depend on how many people sign up for the tournament. Regular flights will cost $20 per person plus green fees if not a member of Oak Harbor Club. The cost for youth is $10 plus gr. fees. The Championship Flight will cost $25 plus gr. fees.
There will be prizes for first in each flight, door prizes as well as for the longest putt, longest drive and closest to the pin.
It is open to both men and ladies alike. To register ladies can call Angie Armstrong at 852-3819 (wk) or 852-3984 (hm) or email her at AngieArmstrong10@hotmail.com. Men can register by calling Bob McGreevy at 852-4404 or emailing him at Mcgreevy@jam21.net. People can also register at the club house tournament day beginning at 7:30 a.m. If golfers wish to golf with anyone in particular they should mention that when registering.
