Stuttering is not a thing to joke about

Dear Editor,
Do you know any people who have a Stuttering problem?
As a child in school I was teased relentlessly by teacher’s, yes the teachers and other student’s, each one hurting me as they flung their insults, to this day I still have a dislike towards a few people because of it.
As an adult I have lived with it for a long time and have grown out of it but for a few odd time if I get nervous it return’s with a vengeance.
Today for some reason it hit a nerve again, I was having a conversation with someone on the phone and this person made a comment because I stuttered, and as I hung up the phone I called that person a name, which was the way I handled it all through the years, if I got mad enough I could say anything I wanted and believe me you knew every word I said!!!
This brings me to wonder why people feel the need to say something to us as we struggle to get a word out. Are the contortions of our faces not enough to let you see that we are having a little bit of a problem? Maybe we think you are deaf and we have to say it three times!!!!!
I have watched people struggle to get words out. The best thing you can do is to look away and give us thirty seconds to compose our selves and all will be fine.
I guess what I am really thinking is if this is so funny to them, then what do they think of someone who is in a wheel chair and making jarred movements because of an accident that may have made them that way .
Thannnks for your time ( oops I did it again)
