Riverside foundation gives $1.1 million

Riverside Foundation
News Release

Riverside Foundation for Health Care recently turned over $1.1 million dollars to Riverside Health Care Facilities to purchase equipment and pay for renovation costs at Emo Health Centre and La Verendrye Hospital.
Wayne Woods, Riverside CEO was very appreciative of this recent donation. “The Foundation is an integral part of our health care system and I am extremely pleased with their commitment to improving health care across the District”, noted Woods.
Some of the items purchased include new glider chairs for the wards at La Verendrye Hospital, an Aquarium for the lounge at Rainy River Health Centre and physiotherapy equipment for Emo Health Centre.
“Most of the equipment purchases were donated through memorial funds”, noted Teresa Hazel, Foundation Director. “The Foundation receives a substantial amount of donations in memory of loved ones and we work together with the family to select a piece of equipment that is meaningful and will make a difference in the delivery of patient care.”
“I think the amount of memorial funds we receive is a reflection of the wonderful care the staff of Riverside provide to patients across the District”, added Hazel.
A significant portion of the $1.1 million being donated is for the renovations recently completed at Emo Health Centre and ongoing at La Verendrye Hospital.
“We will be receiving the Care Close to Home pledge payments over five years, so we will be turning the funds over to Riverside over that time as well”, noted Tammy Kellar, Chair of Riverside Foundation.
Although taking some time to catch their breath after the year-long campaign, the Foundation Board of Directors continues to meet monthly to develop new initiatives for fundraising.
We are currently preparing a brochure for our Planned Giving Program and we are also excited about the $1,000.00 bursary we will be granting in June for the Continuing Education of Nurses”, explained Kellar.
Other initiatives will include a direct mail campaign to all district residents in May as well as the ongoing activities that are planned through the Foundation’s Special Events committee.
The Foundation will also be hosting Volunteer/Donor recognition events in June in Rainy River, Emo and Fort Frances.
