RRHS honours its best

Many students were honoured at the annual Rainy River High School Athletic and Academic Awards ceremony last Wednesday.
Despite teachers refusing to coach sports over a labour disagreement with the provincial government the school still managed to field several sports.
Vice Principal Bob McGreevy gave a lot of credit to the volunteer coaches that made that a reality.
Principal Don McBride thanked Brian, June and Rick Bonot for their coaching efforts for the curling teams. McBride noted that while the boys and girls teams had a mediocre season the mixed team went undefeated for the season and won NORWOSSAs. That team consisted of Trevor Bonot, Danielle Shrumm, Matt Neilson and Missy Hartnell.
The awards for curling were as follows:
Most Sporting Player (MSP): Missy Hartnell
Most Improved Player (MIP): Heather McLean
Most Valuable Player (MVP): Trevor Bonot
Shannon Hagarty coached both a soccer team and the badminton teams. In badminton the awards were as follows:
Sr. Badminton
MSP: Jeff Marmus
MIPs: Anco van Rozen and Anke Rebehn
MVPs:Kenny Gess and Shaun Holmes
Jr. Badminton
MSPs: Kelli Kuzyk and Keshia Brigham
MIPs: Jenna Yeo and Mark Heyens
MVP: Jesse Tom
Hagarty was aided by Lesley Wood in coaching girls soccer. The awards were as follows:
MSP: Keshia Brigham
MIP: Marion Reimund
MVPs:Alicia Giles and Candace Wiersema
Top Rookie (TR): Brooke Ewald
Shane Aikenhead coached the boys soccer team. The awards were as follows:
MSP: Henning Peterson
MIP: Travis Vandenbrand
MVPs: Tim Galusha and Simeon Nussbaumer
TR: Kenny Gess
Athletes of the year were: Kenny Gess and Brooke Ewald.
The prinicipal's award for leadership, presented by Don McBride, went to Missy Hartnell.
Honour students were presented with certificates of achievement.
Students who achieved at least 80% for one reporting period:
