Remembrance Day Service is this Sunday

By Ken Johnston Editor This Sunday we will all be asked to “Remember Them” at the annual Remembrance Day Services held across the country. Even though it is a Sunday, Rainy River Legion President Gerry Marchuk said, “It will go ahead just like any other year.” The Rainy River service will begin at the Legion Hall at 10:45 a.m. After the singing of the national anthem, Marchuk will welcome everyone. Rev. Darlene Smith will do the Invocation and then Rainy River Mayor Debbie Ewald will read the Honour Roll. That will be followed by two minutes of silence. After the hymn Amazing Grace, Rev. Barb Miller will do a scripture reading. The word of God will be followed by the Choir Anthem and then Meditation by Pastor Gord Armstrong. George Chojko-Bolec will deliver a Prayer for Peace, the crowd will sing O Valiant Hearts and then Rev. Smith will deliver the Benediction. The service will then move outdoors (weather permitting) where more than 60 wreaths will be laid around the cenotaph. Dr. Dave Singleton will play the last post on his trumpet and Rev. Miller will do both the Dedication and Benediction at the cenotaph. Afterwards all are welcome to enjoy a free lunch in the Legion. Later that day the annual Remembrance Day Supper will be held. Social hour will be from 5-6 p.m. with dinner to follow. President Marchuk said that in these times we live in, with troops in Afghanistan right now, and all who have given their all for our freedoms, “I encourage everyone to come out and participate in the service.”
