Doreen Lillian (Armstrong) Kaus, 67
On Monday, November 5, 2007, Doreen Lillian Kaus peacefully passed away with her family by her side at the Rainy River Health Centre in Rainy River, Ontario.
Doreen was born November 1, 1940 in Sleeman, Ontario to the late Arthur (Vic) & Elizabeth Armstrong. She was united in marriage to Reginald Kaus on September 1, 1962. They moved to Atikokan, then on to Thunder Bay, before settling back on Reg’s family farm in Sleeman in 1966. Together with their daughter Lisa, they dairy farmed. Doreen also worked for Lowes Hardware Store in Sleeman for many years.
Doreen was a loving wife, mother, grammie, sister, aunt and friend. She always lived life to the fullest, not a moment was wasted, whether she was taking care of her granddaughters, gardening, berry picking, knitting, crocheting, painting, fishing, or traveling in the motor home. She was happy, very happy.
Doreen enriched the lives of everyone around her. She was not a selfish person. She always put everyone else’s needs before her own. With all their hard work, Doreen and Reg have done well for themselves, but the material things they possessed didn’t matter to her. She was happiest with the love of her family and friends.
Doreen worked hand in hand with Reg for many years on the farm. Their commitment to the farm was the foundation and reflection of their love and life together. Her girls, Lisa, Alyssa and Kailee were the light of her life. She would stop everything she was doing for the girls; she attended every school play, skating show, dance recital, fundraiser and was always the proudest mother and grandmother. She instilled a lot of her wonderful qualities and values into her girls and for that their lives will be forever enriched.
Doreen was also very happy in the kitchen, whether canning, baking, trying out a new recipe, or whipping up a fabulous meal for the unannounced guests that frequently stopped in.
Doreen always had the most beautiful garden and flowerbeds. She was always quick to offer advice or assistance to anyone who needed help with their gardens. Doreen also had a great love for animals and all the animals that surrounded her, always knowing what they needed and nursing many of them to good health. This shows how full of love her heart was.
Doreen also devoted a lot of her time to several of the following groups and committees; Knox United Church Women, Rainy River Hospital Auxiliary, Order of Easter Star, and the Royal Canadian Legion, all of which she always gave her all.
She will lovingly be remembered by her husband , Reg of 45 years, daughter Lisa, son-in-law Dennis, and her granddaughters, Alyssa and Kailee, who will sadly miss their Grammie.
Doreen was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Elizabeth Armstrong.
Doreen is also survived by her brother, Robert (Wilma) Armstrong of Rainy River, Ontario; sisters Betty (Arnould) Brown of Fort Frances, Ontario and Margaret (Rick) Ganyo of Eagen, MN; brother-in-law, Neil Kaus of Rainy River, Ontario and many nieces and nephews.
